Area Education/Training Resources
Since
a high school diploma is sufficient for these
jobs, the focus of this section will be on
the types of classes students can take, even
while in high school, to prepare for this
career.
Skills are needed in the areas listed below.
If you don't have these skills you can take
a class in high school, at a local community
college, or adult education center, or possibly
learn it on your own:
-
Computer basics
-
Computer keyboarding
-
Typing (word processing: Microsoft Word
or WordPerfect)
-
Using a calculator
- Math
basics ("Business Math," "Arithmetic")
-
Business English, Business Correspondence
Skills
in this second list are nice to have. They
are definitely not required to get a job as
an Insurance Claims Clerk, but they could
be helpful on the job:
-
Spreadsheets (Microsoft Excel or Lotus 1-2-3)
-
Databases (Microsoft Access)
-
Medical Terminology
-
Business Insurance, Personal Insurance,
Medical Insurance
-
