The Alameda County Workforce Investment Board and Youth Policy Council would like to inform you of a grant solicitation for Youth Offender Intervention Services being offered by the Department of Labor. The Workforce Investment Act (WIA) authorizes the provision of services to youth who are or have been under criminal justice supervision or involved in gangs. The Department of Labor has set aside $8,250,000 of WIA dollars to fund projects which provide employment and training services to youth offenders, gang members and at-risk youth ages 14-24 which will prevent future dependency and/or break the cycle of crime and juvenile delinquency. There are three categories of projects to be funded. These are:

I. Model Community Projects;
II. Education and Training for Youth Offenders Initiative; and
III. Community-Wide Capacity Building Projects.

Applications are due to the Department in Washington, D.C. by February 28, 2001 at 4:00 PM Eastern Standard Time (EST).
